Leaping Bunny: How did CALM Skin Care get started?
Jyl: CALM Skin Care was started by me, a backpacking artist, because I needed easy travel size skin care products that could be mixed fresh and refilled on my travels. I wanted to fight against the endless purchase of plastic containers and the high costs of natural skincare by creating powder products and eco refills at a price that an average person could afford.
LB: What kind of products do you offer?
Jyl: All Natural Skincare products for face and body, eco refills, and makeup for all skin types.
LB: Do you make the products yourself?
Jyl: Yes, we make everything by hand, except for our makeup line, and all is made in the USA.
LB: What are your favorite products?
Jyl: That's a tough question. If I were stranded on an island, I would opt for the lip balms in the biodegradable eco paper tubes and the Bentonite Green Tea Cleansing Mask. If I were stranded in a random city, the Soy Milk and Rose Hips Facial Cleanser and the Pomegranate Aloe Facial Moisturizer.
LB: Why is being Leaping Bunny certified important to you?
Jyl: The Leaping Bunny Logo is recognized by the industry for their cruelty free commitment. I feel strongly about using ingredients that have a historical record of use by humans like olive oil, which is to say they are tested by humans on humans. We are grateful to be recognized by Leaping Bunny for our commitment and cannot overstate its importance.
LB: Is there anything unique about the company you want to share?
Jyl: We really are green. CALM Eco Refills are packaged in compostable, biodegradable bags and reusable unwaxed brown paper bags. If it cannot be composted or reused, all product containers are easy to recycle.
